Think about it, is it really very strange that Star Trek Online could have cross-platform play? After all, Captain Kirk had all kinds of cross-species lovin', so why not? According to the Star Trek Online FAQ, the upcoming muhmohrpuguh from Cryptic Studios might have cross-platform play between the PC and it's console cousins. Regarding the possibility, the FAQ states "We would like that to be the case. There is nothing technologically keeping us from making it so." It's not an outright declaration that there will be cross-platform play, but it's not a denial either.
For the sake of peace throughout the galaxy, let's hope that Cryptic does indeed make it so.

Mega Man bosses have have essentially followed the same template since the beginning of the series. There are strong ones (Guts Man, Hard Man), elemental ones (Fire Man, Ice Man), and the weird ones (Clown Man? Seriously?). It seems like coming up with original robot designs is as difficult as the Mega Man series itself, as IGN has taken the liberty of introducing us to three of the new bosses to be featured in Mega Man 9. In no particular order, they are Concrete Man, Tornado Man and Magma Man. We'll let you guess which categories they all belong to. Concrete Man can be seen above. Check out the other two after the break (see if you can guess which one is which!).
Here's a question for you. If MTV Games won't publish Brütal Legend, a video game about an axe wielding roadie who lives the legend of rock and roll and casts magic spells with a guitar, who will? When asked by The Cut Scene whether or not they the company would publish Tim Schafer's recently displaced title, MTV -- that's "Music Television" -- replied "We are big fans of Tim Schafer. We hope the game finds a good home." In other words: no.
While Double Fine assures fans that Brütal Legend is "fine" despite getting the boot from Activision, we have to wonder just who will publish the thing. We hope a publisher is revealed soon, lest Brütal Legend's title becomes an ironically accurate description of the game's development.
After reading yesterday's news regarding Flock developer Proper Games and what they think about the Xbox Live Arcade's current state, we've been on the look out for new sheepy Flock media. And wouldn't you know, some newish Flock gameplay was recently(ish) released. How odd! Watch the embedded video for XBLA game Flock and be in awe of its chain reaction-like physics, pretty water and fluffy fluffed sheep launching game mechanics. Knock those sheep around!

IGN has a pretty decent writeup detailing their hands on time with two player co-op in the explosive Mercenaries 2: World in Flames. Online co-op is presented pretty standardly, allowing two players to connect seamlessly where one player enters the others' world a la Crackdown. Meaning that any progress made during co-op only counts towards the hosts' game, but any weapons or money earned by the other player can be taken back to their game. What's nice to see too is the fact that the game doesn't "scale" the action based on co-op, which means that having a co-op buddy by your side makes dishing out the destruction a whole lot easier. Make the jump to get Mercs 2 learnified.
It was revealed last month that Bethesda's Fallout 3 was refused classification by Australia's Classification Board, which effectively amounted to a ban on the game. Good news Aussie gamers, Fallout 3has been reclassified as MA 15+, which means it's not banned after all! There's a catch though, as the game had to be edited in order to be resubmitted to the Classification Board. According to the ratings body, "the reward and incentive" for in-game drug use -- Fallout 3 players can use "chems" to enhance certain stats (and lower others) -- has been heavily reduced. So, what? You get +3 now instead of +10?
We don't know the answer, but the upshot is that Fallout 3 will be available Down Under, and that's good news for everyone.
Coming straight from (SEGA) Saturn's rings and landing on the Xbox Live Arcade will be a remake of the old-school 2D tank shooter Death Tank. That is, if we can trust German's USK ratings board. A listing for the relatively simplistic Death Tank and its Worms-like gameplay recently popped up on the USK ratings website, listing Microsoft as its publisher and the XBLA as its platform of choice. So, technically, an official announcement has yet to be made by anyone, but we trust our German friends. After all, they did give the world sauerkraut. You gotta love 'em for that.

If you're looking forward to a BIG Xbox 360 announcement out of Microsoft during the Games Convention in Leipzig, Germany later this month, we advise not getting your hopes up. Videogaming247 is reporting that Microsoft will not be holding any press conferences during Leipzig, but will be attending with floor space including behind closed door meetings and demos. So, to us, it's pretty easy math. No press conference + no hype = no huge Leipzig Xbox 360 announcements. Sad stuff.

It's a short Ask X3F this week. Why? Because we have next to zero questions to answer. Sometimes, that's just how it happens. As such, it won't take you very long to read it this week. We know, it makes us sad too. But look at it this way, with the time you save on reading Ask X3F, you can get other things done. Important things ... like chores! Or, failing that, you could always play some video games. We understand that's a pretty popular activity these days.
Fun fact: this is the second time we've featured Chronicles of Riddick as the headline image for Ask X3F. See if you can find the other one. It will be fun, we promise!
Got a question for Ask X3F? Maybe you have a story or some information you'd like to share? Send it all to ask [at] xbox360fanboy [dawt] com.
Anyone that has been gaming for a while knows that Mega Man is a tough series. Many of the original 8-bit entries in the series remain some of the toughest games around. Capcom looks to be honoring that legacy via the achievements in the upcoming XBLA release Mega Man 9, because these achievements are tough. At least they sound like they are. Among the achievements are feats such as completing the game five times in one day (Gamer's Day), clearing the game without dying (Invincible) and defeating every boss using only Mega Man's default weapon (Trusty Sidearm). Yow. Anyone out there who can land all twelve achievments gets our respect.
Football fans may have noticed that Brett Favre is still wearing his Packers uniform on the cover of Madden 09 rather than his swanky new Jets uniform. If you just can't stand to see Favre in the wrong uniform (or you're just obsessive compulsive), you can now download a new cover directly from EA. The only question now is what do you do with the old cover? We suppose it might work for papercraft. Failing that, it could make a decent rain hat in a pinch. Just use your imagination kids!
