WRUP: Get Braid edition

Braid is a wonderful game. We can't stop saying it, and we won't stop saying it either. Everyone should at least try the game. It's pretty, it has beautiful music, and the gameplay is clever and fresh. Okay, that's all. End of rant (for now). There are plenty of other games to play, after all, many of them good ones. Just what will you be playing this weekend, hmmm?

Halo 3 takes home Gphoria GOTY honors

Even though it released last September to a flurry of excitement, it is still the most played game on Xbox Live, still holds crazy ridiculous sales records and still has a loyal fanbase, which is probably why Halo 3 was selected as G4's Gphoria 2008 Game of the Year. Beating out other worthy GOTY contenders like BioShock, MGS4 and CoD4, Halo 3 barely squeaked away a win in the closest Gphoria GOTY vote ever. Decided by less than 40 votes. Watch Bungie's acceptance speak (flaming Recon FTW!) and give a congratulatory shout out to team Bungie. Long live the Halo 3!

Rock Band to get a Roadrunner six pack of DLC

Next Tuesday, August 12th, Rock Band'ers will be treated to a six pack of DLC from the Roadrunner record label from artists like Megadeth, Dream Theater and Machine Head. Best part, each track is value priced at 80 Microsoft points per track (480 points for the six song track pack) for the entire month! Prices will back jump up to the normal 160 points per track pricing starting in September, so if you see anything below that you enjoy, we advise making a purchase come Tuesday. Our recommendation: Killswitch Engage's "My Curse".
  • "Runnin' Wild" by Airbourne - 80
  • "Clouds Over California" by DevilDriver -80
  • "Constant Motion" by Dream Theater - 80
  • "My Curse" by Killswitch Engage - 80
  • "Aesthetics Of Hate" by Machine Head - 80
  • "Sleepwalker" by Megadeth - 80

A few Legendary griffon and werewolf screens

Gamecock and Spark Unlimited just sent a set of new screenshots from their upcoming Pandora's box shooter Legendary, and there's plenty to love if you're obsessed with griffons or werewolves. There's werewolves attacking helicopters, werewolves jumping out of windows and even werewolves attacking a griffon. Attacking a griffon! Ahem, view Legendary screenshot love below. That is all.

SSFIITHDR bandage applied, net code improved

Sticking to their word, Capcom has just released a patch for the recently extended Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix beta which should improve everyone's overall beta experience. The patch will insta-download once the beta is launched and, once applied, will fix various bugs and gameplay issues including a 50% improvement in the overall net code. Sadly, the patch doesn't treat us to any new fighters or ratchet up the re-playability quotient. Shucks to that.

Guitar Hero: World Tour to feature Ozzy and other OZZFest bands

Activision just scored a major win in the battle of music genre video game supremecy by securing music from Ozzy Osbourne and other OZZFest bands for inclusion in Guitar Hero: World Tour. There's a bunch of World Tour announcements, so let's just jump right in.

Newly confirmed music to be included as part of World Tour's ever expanding setlist is Ozzy's "Crazy Train" and "Mr. Crowley" as well as OZZFest inspired music including Black Label Society's "Stillborn", Metallica's "Trapped Under Ice" and System of a Down's "B.Y.O.B." On top of that, we know that both Ozzy and Zakk Wylde will be featured in the game and so will OZZFest, as a venue, of course. Finally, seven new (non OZZFest inspired) World Tour tracks were announced, pushing up the total list of confirmed World Tour tracks to 23. Make your way towards the break to get learned.

Superintendent still lives, hiding on Bungie.net

Keen sighted fanboy Skandil just informed us that Bungie's plumber friend, the Superintendent, has not totally disappeared from Bungie.net following the big E3 let down. He's actually still chilling on the homepage. Per the screenshot above (which we needed ninja-like reflexes to capture) you can see that the Superintendent appears on the top left hand corner of Bungie.net where Bungie's logo sits. Though, he only appears randomly and when he wants to. So, does this Superintendent appearance mean anything to us, Halo, Bungie or the secret announcement? Maybe, but probably not. Our Superintendent friend is just chilling ... chilling on the Bungie.net homepage.

[Thanks, Skandil]

Realtime says Crackdown 2 is still a possibility

Chatting with videogaming247, Realtime Worlds' main man Colin Macdonald admitted that "it was a horrible, horrible decision" to not jump right into development of a sequel to their super human sandbox game Crackdown, also confirming that the possibility for sequel love is still there.

"I don't think the door's closed," said Macdonald, "obviously, right now we're tied up with APB and everything else, but hopefully in the future we'll have the resource and something can be worked out with Microsoft. We would have loved to have seen it. We poured five years of our lives into that game. You know, we've got guys on the development team that have Crackdown tattoos, permanent tattoos on their arms. We're extremely passionate about it."

Wow, permanent Crackdown tattoos, eh? Someone at Realtime or Microsoft needs to green-light a Crackdown sequel just to pay respect to the dev team's tattooing. You can't let someone tattoo Crackdown on their arm and not make a sequel ... that's just blasphemy!

Fable 2 receives a visit from Master Chief himself

With yesterday's official announcement of the Fable 2 Collector's Edition came an interesting description of its contents, where it mentioned the addition of an "otherworldly bonus". Curious wording that becomes so much clearer when sifting through the press assets and coming across an image named "Fable2_MasterChief.jpg." That image is viewable above and that image pretty much confirms that the Fable 2 Collector's Edition's otherworldly bonus is non other than a medieval looking Master Chief character. How perfect! Mixing Fable with a pinch of Halo is just like mixing peanut butter with chocolate. Indulgent, sinful and total bliss.

Amazon pre-selling GoW2 Lancer bundle for $139

Here it is fellow Gearheads, the Amazon.com exclusive Gears of War 2 Lancer in all her (yup, it's a her) chainsaw glory. Best thing about it, she's bundled with a copy of the game too. Joy!

Amazon.com just opened up pre-orders for the Gears 2 Lancer bundles that cost a cool $139.99. Bundle? Hells yeah! With the purchase of the Amazon.com exclusive Lancer, all purchasers will receive a FREE copy of the regular edition of Gears of War 2. Add an extra $10 to for the Limited Edition. Simply click your way over to Amazon.com, add both the toy Lancer and a copy of Gears 2 (whichever edition you prefer) and they'll subtract $59.99 from your order total. It may not be a Microsoft sponsored edition of the game (technically they didn't lie), but it'll work just fine for us. Cliff would be proud!

First PiƱata Vision card goes online

Viva Piñata and general Rare fansite MundoRare posted photos of the first ever, official Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise Vision card. You know, those Trouble in Paradise cards that, once scanned, plop the card's character into your virtual garden space. Well, the first Piñata Vision card we're being treated to is Ryan, one of thirty pinata cards that Rare developers have created and (have selfishly) named after themselves. It's a crazy interesting idea that we can't wait to embrace. As long as the scanning process is more efficient then our local grocery store's self checkout lanes. Those wonky scanners are no fun.

X3F Week in Review: August 1, 2008 - August 7, 2008

Not a whole lot going down in Xbox 360 land this week. Oh sure, there are rumors of price cuts, but nothing really solid to latch onto. Except Braid. In short, Braid is an absolutely brilliant game. You should go buy it. Seriously. We'll wait. It is short, sweet and wonderful. Anyway, check out the latest that Xbox 360 Fanboy has to offer below. Oh, and enjoy the fan made Viva Piñata video inspired by the Halo 3 "Believe" ad campaign.

Ken Levine: BioShock film won't be a stinker

Speaking to videogaming247.com, 2K Boston's Ken Levine did his best to allay the fear that the upcoming BioShock film will be a turkey. "You're always going to be worried that in that first meeting they're going to be, like, 'OK, it's Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey on a desert island hunting for pirate treasure,' but it's not going to go that way," said Levine. The film's director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean) "gets" BioShock according to Levine, and he assures fans that Verbinski and script writer John Logan "will very much honour the dramatic and thematic elements of the game." Considering Verbinski managed to turn a theme park ride into a decent set of films, we're hopeful that Levine's faith is justified. Then again, the last time someone made a game movie and claimed to really understand the source material, we wound up Silent Hill.

Fingers crossed.

Soul Calibur IV ships 2 million

It looks like Yoda and Darth Vader are finally working together. You see, the two Jedi masters have managed to help push 2 million copies of Soul Calibur IV onto the gaming populace. The number accounts for both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 version of the game. We're curious to see which version sold more copies. No, not because we want the Xbox 360 version to succeed, but because we want some new nerd ammunition for the next time we get into the Darth Vader vs Yoda conversation.
